But check out your school benefits first. It is not full blown health insurance however. You can get very good low cost plans through the school sometimes. Also whatever income you do have would most likely be very low and you'd pay no taxes and you could even qualify for loans or even food stamps if you wanted. Being independent gives you more options because it is hard to get student loans based on need if you are a dependent because they will lokk at your parents income, etc.
