菊花盛放於秋季,經霜耐寒,有卻風明目、清熱解毒的功效。因古時有飲菊花酒成仙的傳說,菊花向被視為寓意長壽的吉祥物。根據古籍的記載,重陽節飲菊花酒的風俗最遲於西漢已成定俗,並且多與重陽登高、賞菊等習俗緊密相連。菊花酒一般是在前一年的重陽節釀制,第二年重陽始熟而飲用。
