烏龜的腹甲入葯稱"龜板"，是一種較貴重的葯材，具有補心腎、滋陰降火、養血強身之功效;同時也是止血劑，可用於治療吐血、尿血及子宮出血等症;此外，烏龜肉含有極其豐富的蛋白質和多種維生素，是鮮美可口的佳餚和滋補品。近年來，野生烏龜資源因濫捕亂捉越來越少，而國內外市場對烏龜的需求量卻越來越大，所以人工養殖烏龜，一方面可以致富，另一方面還可以保護野生烏龜種源。
