長壽花耐乾旱，對土壤要求不嚴，以肥沃的砂壤土為好。一般於每年春季花謝後換盆1次，盆土以選用腐葉土4份、園土4份、河沙2份，另加少量混合配製而成為好。長壽花為短日照植物，對光周期反應比較敏感。生長發育好的植株，給予短日照(每天光照8～9小時)處理3～4周即可出現花蕾開花。

1、最古老的松樹

（1）北京北海公園團城上承光殿東側有株油松，已有800多歲，當年乾隆皇帝見它濃蔭蔽日，遂封為「遮蔭侯」。 在北京市延慶縣的松山天然森林公園，共有十大風景點,「原始松樹林」是其中之一。林中有一棵「松樹王」，直徑有76厘米，已經活了500多年。

（2）在內蒙鄂爾多斯高原東緣、黃河西岸的黃土丘陵溝塹 區，生長著一株年代久遠的古松，其體格魁偉，高達25米， 胸徑134厘米，冠幅14．5×16．4米，材積13．立方米, 樹齡 已近900歲，被人稱作「油松王」。

（3）在廣西壯族自治區貴縣南山寺殿後洞峭壁上有一棵古松，樹齡已達3000年，被認為是我國迄今發現的一棵最古老的松樹。雖歷盡風雨寒暑，但一直蒼勁挺拔，繁茂蔥郁。在崖上刻有「不老松」三字，遊人前往參觀，常與古松合影，把它作為長壽的象徵。

2、松樹名源考

松樹，輪狀分枝，節間長，小枝比較細弱平直或略向下彎曲，針葉細長成束。因此，其樹冠看起來篷松不緊湊，「松」字正是其樹冠特徵的形象描述。所以，「松」就是樹冠篷松的一類樹。
